NBC announced a fashion designer competition series 'Fashion Star'

NBC has announced that it had ordered Star Fashion, the new Project Runway reality-competition series as it will try to find a fashion designer who could become the next American brand popular. Organized by former supermodel Elle Macpherson, Fashion Star will feature 12 designers compete in weekly fashion a series of notes and business challenges that will end with one of those who have been named the next "Fashion Star" and won a contract-millions of dollars to launch their own line at the store America's largest retailers. "Who better to host than Elle Macpherson – the perfect fashion sense and 30 years of experience building his eponymous brand is a great asset to the show and the designers," said NBC reality chief Paul Telegdy. Fashion Star will be produced by production Lipstiz and Cutforth's Fairy Magiccompany and Electus, a new multimedia studio that NBC veteran reality TV producer and former programming chief Ben Silverman was founded in 2009.

The series was created by Silverman, Rick Ringbakk from 5×5 Media, and EJ Johnston and James Deutch from Global Fashion Association. Lipsitz, Cutforth, Silverman, and Macpherson – who currently serves as the host of Britain's Next Top Model – Fashion Star will executive produce along with Ringbakk, Johnston and Deutch. Lipsitz and Cutforth choose to leave Project Runway when The Weinstein Company, owner of the foundation, reached an agreement to move the show from Bravo to Lifetime in 2008. Instead, they signed a development agreement with the company's first exclusive appearance of NBC Universal, parent of both NBC and Bravo. Unlike Project Runway, which focuses on high-end women's fashion, Fashion Star will target a variety of casual fashion including dresses, jackets, clothing, denim, swimwear, shoes, and accessories.
